Mindful Monday

Hello all you wonderful people!

I mentioned this in my ramble of a post last week, but I actually like the idea of having a weekly blog post where I just check in. Kind of to help keep myself accountable on a few things. I’ve been totally revamping my planner system into one that actually works for MY life and not just using someone else’s ideas all the time, so everything that helps keep me on track is a good thing!

So with that in mind, I can’t promise that the format of this post won’t change or switch around somewhat. But for right now I’m planning to post this first thing on Monday mornings and have a fairly set list of things that I do an update on. What things those are will most definitely change as time passes, and especially in the next few weeks while I figure out exactly how this plan is going to work best for me. In the meantime, enjoy!

What did I learn in the past week?

I had a bit of a refresher course on the idea that it’s okay to have some downtime. I felt very productive and energetic in the mornings but I consistently crashed at about 3 in the afternoon, which is well before I get off from work. I had to tell myself that it was okay to veg out in front of the tv in the evenings because I had already gotten a bunch of stuff done that morning.

What were the highlights of my week?

First – Nano. I didn’t quite get all the words that I wanted out, but I definitely did write every day, which is a huge win in my book. And I even managed to get a blog post out, and work out a few other plans and lists that I was needing to write.

The house stayed reasonably clean, or at least I put some effort into it on a daily basis. Again, consistency is a big deal for me, so yay! I have a list of daily habits that I’m working on putting into place, and it finally feels like I’m getting into the groove.

I started doing 5-10 minutes of meditation every day.

On Wednesday I started working through a free course online that one of the blogs I follow is offering and I’m definitely enjoying it.

I got outside over the weekend and spent some time enjoying my horse.

What have I been reading/watching?

I haven’t been reading much lately, but in the process of writing this, I decided that I want to read several of the books that have been sitting on my bookshelf for far too long, and the first one I picked up was The Marble Faun, by Nathaniel Hawthorne. It has an intriguing story and explores emotions in an interesting way.

As far as watching anything, I’ve done a terrible job of keeping up with the shows that I really enjoy, but I want to catch up on The Good Doctor.

What are my goals for this week?

“Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.”  This is the quote that I wrote up on my dry erase board in the kitchen and I want to guide my week by that idea because it is so true.

This week I want to…

  • reach 38,000 words on my Nanowrimo project.
  • spend some more time with my horse – I plan to get out to the farm at least twice.
  • continue working through the online course that I mentioned earlier.
  • get a good start on buying Christmas presents.
  • catch up on keeping track of finances.
  • start making some reasonable writing goals.
  • enjoy Thanksgiving with my family.

Anything else coming up this week?

I have a doctor’s appointment Tuesday morning, so hopefully everything goes well with that.

We also have a social dance that happens once a month and will be attending that on Tuesday evening.

I have been loving the cooler, sunny weather that we’ve been having and I’m really hoping that it sticks around – the sun is a huge help for my depression.

What are your plans and goals for the coming week?

Love and kindness,

Katharine Marie
