2019 Reading Challenge

Hi again, my magical folks!

It’s good to finally be back to talking about creative endeavors. I don’t know about you, but any time my life gets busy and I lose touch with some of my hobbies, I don’t feel quite right. This week has been long and while it hasn’t been particularly busy at work, I’m still tired and ready to relax and do something that is just for me.

Reading has always been a favorite pastime of mine. I was that kid that got grounded from her books and always got into trouble for reading way past my bedtime. But when I started college, I just began drifting further and further away from the habit. And then after I was no longer in school, it just never became a thing again. So I want to change that.

As I’ve stated in my goals for the year, I’m wanting to read more and I want to read things that I’m not used to reading. Things that make me think and really challenge and/or help me understand issues and society and my world a bit better. And with that in mind, I decided to try and tackle the reading challenge that PopSugar puts out every year. They have a list of prompts to help you choose which books to read and I’m hoping it helps me get out of my comfort zone and read some new stuff. I’ve never done a challenge like this before and I’m excited!

I’m a little nervous at this point, but I think it’s totally doable. I’ve started taking the time to read at least a chapter before I get into bed at night and I enjoy it.

This post will be my central place for the entire year. I’ll come back and update it on a monthly basis and link to it in other posts so that it will be easier to find. The total for the entire challenge is 50 books, which is approximately 4.2 books per month. At the time of writing this, I’m working on a book that I started right before the New Year, so that will count as well.

Current Books In Progress.

The Door Within, by Wayne Thomas Batson.

The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger.

Gone Girl, by Gillian Flynn.

The Dark is Rising, by Susan Cooper.

The Elements of Style, by Strunk and White.

Completed Books & Associated Prompts

February (to be completed)

March (to be completed)

What are you planning to read this year?

Love and kindness!
