Hello lovely humans,
Blogging has been kind of hit or miss over the last… six? months. I’m unsure of a lot of things, but one thing that I know right now is that I am definitely not the same person (at least not on the inside) that I was a few years ago. Even one-year-ago me was different. In light of that, and also because I just rewrote my online bio things, I wanted to share a little about myself. So here are 25 things to know about Katharine.
-
I wrote down my first story when I was nine years old. It was a fairy tale reminiscent of My Little Pony and I still love it to this day.
-
As a child/teen, all I wanted to do was make a career in the horse industry. Then I pursued a music career. I only realized a few years ago that writing was the single constant throughout my whole life, and now that’s my career!
-
I’ve never thrown a single piece of writing away. It’s a mess and desperately needs to be categorized and preserved though.
-
I started playing the piano at four years old. I was then classically trained for almost twenty years. I’m no Mozart, but I think I do fairly well for myself.
-
Social situations are huge triggers for my anxiety. The decompression from an hour of social interaction can take at least four to five times that long.
-
I drink way too much coffee. Sometimes I forget to drink water because by the time I’ve finished all my coffee for the day, it’s time to start on the wine!
-
Don’t try to talk to me first thing in the mornings. Coffee or not, I will not be in any mood for conversation. I’m not even a grouch, I just take a long time to wake up!
-
I self-published my first book when I was 20. I recently pulled it from the market for a re-release.
-
I have a very psychotic black cat named Moriarty that I got as a 5 week old runt. He isn’t particularly grateful that I saved his life.
-
When I have the chance, I still ride the horse that I’ve had for almost 14 years now. It’s extremely therapeutic.
-
I’ve blogged since at least May of 2013. At least that’s the furthest back that I can find. I’m pretty sure there’s a missing blogspot site somewhere.
-
I graduated from community college with an Associate’s degree in music, then moved on to state university to finish my undergrad studies in the same field. I had a variety of experiences that made me realize it was not the right path for me.
-
In 2018, I married my soulmate and found more peace in my life than I ever dreamed I could have.
-
In 2019, we were blessed with our beautiful daughter. I never imagined being a parent, but it has helped me grow in ways I can’t even imagine.
-
In 2020, I quit my full-time job as a bank teller so that I could be a stay-at-home mom and pursue my own passion: writing.
-
I am currently on track to graduate in November of 2021 with my Bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing.
-
By 2022, my husband and I plan to have swapped roles so that I can work full time in the writing/editing industry and he can stay home with our princess.
-
I used to be a big proponent of positivity and silver linings. I don’t really care about that anymore, at least not in the same way. It became exhausting to paint through rose-tinted glasses. Therapy helped.
-
Parenting has really changed my perspective on life and helped me figure out who I actually want to be. Therapy helped with that too though.
-
Yeah, maybe I should just say that I’m a big advocate for therapy. Mental health care for everyone, please.
-
I don’t talk about politics on my pages or in my posts. I do advocate for equality, human rights, and environmentalism, but since I don’t usually have the energy to deal with controversial conversations, I stay away from certain topics.
-
Please don’t ask who my favorite author is. I really don’t know. I do love Tyler Knott Gregson’s poetry though. Check that out.
-
I try my best to stay as real as possible, and the reality sometimes isn’t pretty. But we all need the camaraderie that comes from knowing that 99% of us don’t have our shit together. Let’s own it.
-
I currently work as an assistant editor for a small textbook company and my focus is on middle school English.
-
I listen to music as often as I can. All the genres, all the artists, it’s all beautiful.
Now I ask you… what is your favorite thing about yourself? It doesn’t matter how unimportant it may seem.
Love and gentle thoughts,
Katharine Marie
