2022 Hello Again!

Happy Friday, my dear lovely humans,
It’s been far too long since I wrote regularly on here, so today, let’s get back into the swing of things with a re-introduction post!

Hi there, I’m Katharine! I generally go by Katharine Marie as my pen name, but you’ll also see me around the internet as Katharine Espinosa, depending on the platform. I’m on the upper end of my 20s, uncomfortably close to 30 at this point, and I’m a lifelong writer and bookworm. I live in rural Texas with my husband, daughter, two cats, and my horse. I love chocolate ice cream, all things nature, and played piano for twenty years.

Elemental Dreamer is the result of many years of random blogging attempts that were all either unfocused or ended up not serving my purpose anymore. This is now both my personal blog and my writing platform/portfolio.

I enjoy writing about stories and all things creative, especially as I bounce around between projects. I’ve been writing stories down since I was 9 years old and while I rarely complete my fictional works, they are a lot of fun and I enjoy the process way too much. I’m working to break into the publishing field since I graduated in 2021 with my English and Creative Writing degree. My current job keeps me busy writing and editing curriculum content for K-12 schools and I really love the work.

A lot of the blog posts here most recently have centered around parenting and mental health because that encompasses the vast majority of my life at the moment. My husband and I have a wonderful 2-year-old daughter and toddlerhood can be intense, to say the least. I’m here to try and be honest about the ways that parenting affects mental health and also just be realistic about what parenting entails as a whole because the stuff you think you know? It’s all so wrong.

In my spare time (what little exists), I also enjoy riding horses, and I write about those experiences on a side blog, linked here. I’ve had my current horse for over 14 years now, so its a long-term relationship, one might say, which leads to some fun moments. I’m still a farm girl at heart.

But honestly, mental health advocacy still encompasses a lot of my goals for blog posts here. Having dealt with generalized anxiety, mild depression, the postpartum versions of those two, and now most recently ADHD and PMDD, I feel that mental health is not prioritized in conversations. It’s not fun for people to talk about and so it gets avoided. And it leaves those who are struggling with the feeling that they have nobody to turn to. Untreated mental conditions are silent killers and I strongly believe that education and the normalization of these struggles can go a long way towards helping people be healthier and safer in their lives.

And that concludes my re-introduction post. I’m still working on archiving a lot of past writings in a way that’s easy to search and access. In the meantime, my goal for 2022 is to post twice a month (already failed that one in January), really use this website to showcase my work and my passions, and just become a little more authentic in blog posts and on social media alike. No huge, life-changing plans in the works at the moment, but lots of little ones that I work on in my spare time.

If anything I wrote about in this post resonates with you, please feel free to get in touch. My heart is always open to anyone who wants or needs to chat.

Love and kindness,
Katharine Marie
