Moving is Chaos

Hello lovely folks and fellow dreamers!

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, we moved out of our apartment last week! We finally found a place that, while not being any bigger that what we had, is a million times better as far as neighborhood, quality, etc. All the things that were important to me with the impending addition of a tiny human.

But as we all know, moving can be complete chaos. It’s been a bit rough and crazy, but mostly just exhausting. We’re both super tired and trust me, we’re not even completely unpacked yet.

photo-1562534315-64dba645d0f9.jpg

I had well laid plans and great intentions for packing and moving everything in a timely and orderly way. But good grief, packing is ridiculously hard when you’re eight months pregnant. Well… in reality, just about everything is hard. But the physical exertion of just filling two or three boxes with just clothes was enough for one evening. So, we can just say that things didn’t go according to my “well laid plans.”

We were also faced with the fact that we have way too much stuff. I love a more minimalist aesthetic, but we are so far from that idea it’s a little funny. Because I wasn’t able to pack up as much stuff as I wanted to ahead of time I wasn’t able to sort through everything as much as I originally planned. But we’ve still been able to get rid of a lot of clutter and I plan to sort through things a little more as I unpack boxes.

I need to do a shout-out to my family – they have been absolutely AMAZING. My dad brought his truck and trailer and between him, my brother, and The Husband they were able to move all the furniture down from our second floor apartment and across town to the new place. In the triple digit Texas heat, no less. I felt so bad for them, especially since I have a piano that practically weighs a ton by itself. And my mom – she packed up so much of the house on her own and has been helping me clean. Let’s just say I felt very useless the whole time and still everything got done.

And the cats… oh goodness… they are certainly figuring things out. Giovanni despises moving or packing or anything related to that so he has been a real piece of work. Moriarty just thought it was all the best game ever! I mean, boxes everywhere, right? But they’re slowly settling in. I think they still feel a bit out of place – and they’ve been waking me up at 6am or earlier since we started spending the night. So that’s fun. Time will help them adjust though.

Of course I wish the place was a little bit bigger. In reality the floor space is probably very similar to the apartment but the layout is very different. But we are definitely losing closet space and I’m having to work around that fact.

The entire place has concrete flooring – which while it might not be ideal is really not a big issue. We’re going to invest in some area rugs and cushy mats for the kitchen, which will help a great deal. And we’ve already noticed that the place just feels a lot cooler than the apartment did, part of which I’m sure if because we’re ground level now, but also the concrete floor just stays cool.

My favorite things? Oh dear…

  • The backyard, especially the adorable horses across the fence!
  • The kitchen is bigger. So, SO nice.
  • A laundry room! Granted, we still need to acquire a washer/dryer, but at least there’s a place to put them!
  • No. More. Stairs.
  • The quiet feeling of being almost in the country. We’re in a neighborhood right on the edge of town and it is gloriously quiet and relaxed.
  • Did I mention the stairs being nonexistent? It. Is. Fabulous.

The next housing goal is, of course, to own our own place and we plan to work towards that after the baby gets here. Whether that will be just buying a house or actually building something, we’re not sure. But for right now? I think we’re content just to settle in, work towards some financial goals, and not rush into anything. We found what we think will be a lovely place to bring Baby A home to and that is all that matters right now.

Originally I was going to share a couple of pictures, but without internet at the house for the week my options were more limited – but I plan to share pictures in a couple weeks when I have things more organized. Right now everything is in the middle of unpacking and rather a mess so I’m okay keeping it to myself! So stay tuned if you’re interested in the “finished” product!

Mindful Monday: Moving

Hello beautiful wonderful people!

It’s time for another one of our Mindful Monday posts – a roundup of things I’m currently into, some current goals, and some mini updates on my personal life.

Third trimester emotions are really hitting me hard at this point. Nothing is going wrong but I’m feeling a lot of stress, pressure, and I’m just no longer sleeping well. At ALL. I’m just tired all the time and it makes me cranky a lot more than I would like to be. So emotionally, I’m a little messy but regular life things are going well, so that’s good!

Since Last Time…

Since the last Mindful Monday post we’ve officially moved into a new place! It’s an adorable duplex right on the edge of town and we’re really happy with it. We’re still doing the last bit of moving and cleaning and it has been absolutely exhausting. Not only can I not do much of anything to actually help right now, but the upper 90s and triple digit heat made it extra hard on The Husband and the other guys we had helping us move. It was a little rough, but to be fair, we had most of the stuff moved within two days, so it’s getting done! I’ll be able to turn in my apartment keys in the next day or two and then it’s all unpacking and settling in!

Our wedding anniversary was yesterday and I wrote a whole post about it. We were busy with moving and being worn out to really celebrate, but we had a good day anyways. I’m still falling more and more in love with my handsome man every single day!

August is getting close to being half over and I’m so confused. Like… where is the time running off to…? I don’t understand. I’m hitting 35 weeks of pregnancy this week and we’re basically scrambling to have everything ready for our princess to make her appearance.

As a bit of a present for The Husband, I decided to try my hand at script writing… I already write everything else, so why not take this up too and then we’ll be an even better team – I’ll write/manage projects and he’ll direct/edit them! How fun would that be?!

Coming Up Next…
  • Unpack everything.
  • Baby shower! All the baby things, actually.
  • Keep surviving the August heat.
  • Enjoy this last month before baby A gets here.
What I’m Reading…

I’m actually on the search for a few new books to read – the insomnia is real right now and I’m burning through books on my Kindle SO fast! I’ve been brainstorming a mystery idea for one of The Husband’s scripts so I’m kind of on a thriller/mystery kick right now.

My other favorites are historical romances… they tend to be fairly easy reads, which is great for the times when I wake up at 1am and just need to do something other than lay there for two hours.  And fantasy. I’ll never turn down a good fantasy novel. Although I’m starting to branch out into some science fiction as well. Hmm.

What I’m Thinking About…

What issue has been preoccupying my thoughts?

Having reached the last stages of pregnancy I’m overanalyzing every little thing. I’m questioning how I feel at any given moment to make sure everything is still A-Okay. Preoccupied would be a gentle way to put it, if I’m being honest!

What do I really want to buy right now?

I’m shopping for rugs at the moment. The new place has concrete flooring and we need a large area rug for the living room as well as some small ones for other places. So rug shopping it is!

Now it’s your turn! How are things going in your life?? Let me know!

Sending you love and kindness!

Mindful Monday: Duality

Hello beautiful wonderful people!

It’s time for another one of our Mindful Monday posts – a roundup of things I’m currently into, some current goals, and some mini updates on my personal life.

Since the last time we chatted, I’ve done both a lot and practically nothing at all. My house is kind of a mess, but we’ve been doing more activities away from home. I’ve panicked because of how quickly our move is coming up and great progress has been made in prepping for the baby. So it’s’ been mostly good with a little craziness thrown into the mix. Which, now that I think about it, sounds like exactly what I like!

Since Last Time…

The worst thing that’s happened so far has been me getting a lovely little sunburn. Ouch.

My parents wanted to do something for July 4th, so we headed up to Oklahoma for a day trip with my family. I was pleasantly surprised that I managed a couple hours of canoeing on the river without getting too exhausted! It was a lot of fun!

We just got back last night from a weekend in Dallas – kind of a getaway for both of our birthdays (even though his was back in April!) – and it was SO nice to spend two days together, not worrying about anything else. I spent too much money on books, we had maybe a bit too much fun at Medieval Times, and even won a few of our bets while spending half a day at the horse races.

Camp Nanowrimo though… honestly, I’m a little behind at the moment, although not ridiculously so. Having extra days off work and having plans out of town have made it difficult to catch up though. The next week and a half though, our calendar is a lot more open and I hope to keep it that way so that I can continue writing. At least when I do find the time to write, I can get my words in! The story is coming along well!

I am deep in the process of setting up baby registries right now… and it is a simple enough task that somehow makes me realize how much I don’t know or am not prepared for. Yikes. But hey, I can NOT get enough of the adorable baby stuff. So tiny!! Ssqueal!

The house hunting is still very much on – it’s been a real challenge finding something that is in a decent neighborhood while still allowing indoor cats. Our family of five is harder to house than I thought! And I’ve been journaling, but not quite every day. Also a challenge for some reason. Maybe the crazy schedule.

Coming Up Next…
  • Camp Nanowrimo continues!
  • Fort Worth Indie Film Festival is in two weeks – wish us luck!
  • Find that unicorn house to rent.
  • Really work on my daily self-employment routine (I may need to write about this).
  • Packing for that move we have to make next month!
What I’m Reading…

What blog posts caught my eye?

I really needed to read this blog post from Frugal Debt Free Life about small steps towards getting out of debt. Even though all the things on that list are things I already think about and (mostly) implement in my daily life, it was still a great reminder.

I’m starting to pack up stuff around the house and a big thing has been my closet, so this post from The Confused Millenial about capsule wardrobes was a nice read. Right now my wardrobe is very limited because of the baby bump, so just to see the huge amount of clothes that I’m not wearing is a little humbling. I may need to get rid of some stuff!

What book am I currently reading?

My darling husband got me a tablet for my birthday and the first book I downloaded to read was The Tethering, by Megan O’Russell. And so far I’m enjoying it – the writing is very strong and so far the plot is holding up. We’ll see what happens!

What I’m Thinking About…

What issue has been preoccupying my thoughts?

I’ve been thinking about how my cats are going to handle having a baby in the house – my younger kitty in particular. He’s practically a dog behavior-wise and he requires a lot of energy and attention – he is going to be extremely jealous and I worry a bit sometimes about how things are going to play out. (I’m not getting rid of him, it’s just a matter of what we have to do to make the household run smoothly!)

What’s coming up soon for my online platform?

I haven’t been as active online as I was planning to be so far, but slow and steady wins the race. This week specifically I’m working on posting something on social media once a day, no matter what that might be. From there, we’ll see!

What do I really want to buy right now?

I mentioned that The Best Husband Ever got me a tablet for reading and whatever business purposes I might need it for, and I am now obsessed with buying ALL the books. Whoops.

Now it’s your turn! How are things going in your life?? Let me know!

Sending you love and kindness!

July 2019 Goals

Hello lovely folks!

Summer is definitely upon us. I just checked my phone and the forecast is a weird mix of super heavy thunderstorms and 100 degree days. It’s awesome. Although the rain is okay, there has been a lot of major flooding in Texas and Oklahoma so maybe now would be a good time to stop dumping water on our heads, okay? At least, that’s my point of view!

untitled.png

June seemed like a bit of everything thrown all together. The show I was planning to work on was cancelled sadly, although maybe for the best since I haven’t been feeling all that great again lately. Writing-wise though, it’s been super great!

I covered a lot more in my Quarter Two review post, so you can read that if you feel like it, and I updated my June goals post so you can see how I did on those!

So… what do we have planned for July?!

Goals for July 2019
  • Find and set up our new lease – moving in August!
  • Finish paying off the midwife.
  • Stay on budget as much as possible – moving and babies are expensive!
  • Keep working on my communication – this has been a big topic at home lately.
  • Earn X amount with my brand new freelance writing business!
  • 10 blog posts here on Elemental Dreamer.
  • Complete and win Camp Nanowrimo.
  • Read two books.
  • Play the piano several evenings during the week.
  • Write several cards that are long overdue to be sent.
  • Set up our baby registry.
  • Celebrate a birthday by going out of town for a weekend.
  • Attend the Fort Worth Indie Film Festival!
  • Spend the holiday weekend with my family.
  • Daily things like journaling, taking my vitamins and stretching.

The heat is really tough to deal with at 7 months pregnant so I’ll be spending time in the air conditioning as much as I can. Definitely looking forward to a great month though!

What do you have planned for July?

Love and kindness,

Katharine Marie
